HOW IT WORKS

Every term, one number.

Cumulative GPA = all quality points ÷ all credit hours, across every term. A shortcut: prior quality points = prior GPA × prior credits, so you only need your prior GPA and prior credit total, not every old course.

Worked example

Prior record: 3.20 GPA over 30 credits = 96 quality points. This term: 3.60 over 15 credits = 54 quality points. Combined: 150 quality points ÷ 45 credits = 3.33.

How to use the cumulative gpa calculator

  1. Turn on “Include my prior GPA”

Enter your prior cumulative GPA and your prior total credit hours — both are on your transcript. The calculator turns them into quality points for you.

  2. Add this term’s courses

Enter each new course’s credits and grade as usual.

  3. Choose your scale

Match your school: +/- grades on or off, weighted on or off. Use the same basis your prior GPA was recorded on.

  4. Read your cumulative GPA

The result combines old and new into one GPA, with the total credits behind it.

Why the prior-GPA shortcut works

Your cumulative GPA already summarises every past course: prior GPA × prior credits gives back the exact prior quality points. So you don’t need to re-enter years of courses — the two numbers carry all the information the formula needs.

Keep the basis consistent

If your transcript GPA is unweighted, combine it with unweighted term grades. Mixing a weighted prior GPA with unweighted new courses (or the reverse) gives a number that doesn’t mean much.

Retakes and grade replacement

Some schools replace the original grade when you retake a course; others average both attempts. This calculator adds whatever you enter — follow your school’s repeat policy when deciding which grades to include.

Cumulative GPA Calculator questions

How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Add the quality points from every term (grade points × credits) and divide by all credit hours. Using your prior GPA and prior credits as a shortcut, 150 quality points over 45 credits is a 3.33 cumulative GPA.
How much will this term change my cumulative GPA?
The more prior credits you have, the less one term moves the overall number. Enter a few different term GPAs to see how far your cumulative figure can move.
What counts toward cumulative GPA?
Usually every graded course that earns credit on your transcript. Pass/fail and transfer credits are often excluded from GPA — check your school’s policy.
Can I raise a low cumulative GPA?
Yes, but it gets slower as credits add up. The raise-your-grade guide explains the math of recovery.
