How MyGradePlan calculates
The calculation engine represents decimal inputs as exact fractions. It preserves entered precision, performs no intermediate rounding, and rounds displayed results to two decimals.
Points grade
Current grade = included earned points ÷ included possible points × 100. Missing-zero work counts its possible points with nothing earned. Ungraded and excused work are excluded. Bonus points add to the numerator only.
Weighted grade
Each category’s percentage is multiplied by its weight; the contributions are added and divided by the sum of weights of categories that have graded work. A final projection requires every assignment entered and weights totaling 100%.
Final exam target
Required final score = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. The minimum is rounded up to two decimals so meeting it reaches the target. Results above 100% are shown, not capped. A target already met with a zero final is reported as secured.
Statuses and drops
Graded and missing-zero work count. Ungraded and excused work do not enter the current denominator. Drop-lowest ranks eligible assignments by percentage, resolves ties by creation order, excludes protected assignments, and retains at least one included assignment in each category.
Caps and extra credit
Extra credit must be enabled. Bonus points add to the numerator only and cannot create a result with no denominator. Category caps apply before weighting. Scenarios recompute these rules with assumed scores.
Letter grades
Boundaries you enter are compared against the exact, unrounded result. 89.995% displays as 90.00% and is still below a 90 boundary.
Limits of a projection
A projection requires all assignments to be entered and explicitly confirmed, with category weights totaling 100%. Lower-score, my-plan and higher-score labels describe editable assumptions. They are not forecasts or guarantees. Exam replacement, best-of-term and attendance policies are not modeled; confirm those with your instructor.
