Test Score Calculator
Turn a test score into a percentage and letter grade. Enter points earned and points possible — like 42 out of 50 — for an exact percentage, and combine several tests.
Your calculator is getting ready.
It runs separately so your grades stay away from advertising. If it doesn’t appear, open it directly.
Open the calculatorPoints in, percentage out.
Percentage = points earned ÷ points possible × 100. For several tests, add all earned points and all possible points first — don’t average the separate percentages when the tests are worth different totals.
Worked example
Scores of 42/50 and 68/75 together are 110/125 = 88%, not the 87.3% you’d get by averaging 84% and 90.67% — because the second test is worth more points.
How to use the test score calculator
Enter points earned and possible
Straight from the test, like 42 out of 50. Add a row for each test.
Leave ungraded tests out
Mark anything not yet taken as “Not graded yet” so it doesn’t count as a zero.
Add any extra credit
Bonus points add to earned points only.
Read your percentage and plan
With every remaining test entered, the calculator shows the average you still need to hit your target.
One test: earned ÷ possible
A single test score is just points earned divided by points possible, times 100. 42 out of 50 is 84%. Match that percentage to your course’s letter scale — 84% is a B on the common scale.
Several tests: add the points first
When tests are worth different totals, add all earned and all possible points before dividing. Averaging the individual percentages over-weights the smaller tests and gives the wrong number.
Equal-point questions are different
If every question on one test is worth the same and you just know how many you missed, the easy grader and the test score charts are faster.
