Your calculator is getting ready.
It runs separately so your grades stay away from advertising. If it doesn’t appear, open it directly.
Open the calculatorWalk into your final with a plan.
Required final score = (target − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight, with the final weight written as a fraction (25% = 0.25).
Worked example
A current grade of 85%, a final worth 20%, and a target of 80% requires (80 − 85 × 0.8) ÷ 0.2 = 60% on the final. A 90% course target would require 110%, which is not reachable without extra credit.
How to use the final exam grade calculator
Enter your grade before the final
Use the grade that includes every assignment except the final. If your gradebook already counts the final as a zero, use the grade from before that.
Enter the final exam weight
Your syllabus lists it, for example “Final exam: 25%”. If the final sits inside a larger exam category, use a full course plan instead.
Enter the course grade you want
Pick the percentage you need for the letter grade you’re aiming for, such as 90 for an A or 80 for a B on a standard scale.
Read your required score
The calculator shows the minimum final score, flags targets above 100%, and tells you when your target is already secured.
Use the grade before the final
This calculator assumes all other coursework is complete and the final is the only unknown. A gradebook that already treats the final as a zero may show a different number from the current grade this formula requires.
Understand unreachable targets
If the required final score exceeds 100%, the target is not reachable under a 100% maximum score. Extra-credit policies can change the allowed maximum; confirm those policies with your instructor.
When the final has no weight
At a final weight of zero, the exam cannot change the course result. At a final weight of 100%, the required exam score equals the desired course grade.
