Does ungraded work count as zero?
Ungraded work should not count as zero unless your instructor recorded a zero. Learn the difference between not graded yet, missing, and excused, with a worked example.
An unknown score and a recorded zero mean different things. Choose the status that matches what your instructor has actually recorded, rather than using a zero as a placeholder.
Not graded yet
The score is unknown, perhaps because the assignment is in the future or the instructor has not marked it. MyGradePlan leaves its earned and possible points out of your grade so far. Enter its possible points so it can be included in a future scenario.
Missing — counts as 0
Use this when the assignment is recorded as a zero under your course rules. Its possible points count, with no earned points. A late submission may change the official score later; update the entry when the score changes.
Excused
An excused assignment contributes neither earned nor possible points. It is different from a dropped assignment, which is chosen by the course’s drop policy.
See the difference
A quiz worth 20 points is marked 18/20. A second 20-point quiz is ungraded. Your grade so far is 90%. Marking the second quiz missing changes the result to 18/40, or 45%. Excusing it leaves 90%.
Check a future result safely
Keep the second quiz ungraded and enter a score assumption in the scenario workspace. An assumed 80%, or 16/20, gives a planned 34/40 = 85%. This does not replace the actual unknown score. Enter every remaining assignment before treating a scenario as a complete course projection.
