Blackboard Grade Calculator
Work out your real Blackboard grade from weighted columns and the running total, and check it against what Blackboard shows before the term ends.
Your calculator is getting ready.
It runs separately so your grades stay away from advertising. If it doesn’t appear, open it directly.
Open the calculatorMake sense of the Blackboard total.
Blackboard’s weighted total column multiplies each category (or column) by its weight and adds them. The “running” setting decides whether columns with no grade yet are included — the usual source of surprises.
Worked example
Assignments weighted 30% at 95% and Tests weighted 70% at 82%: (95 × 30 + 82 × 70) ÷ 100 = 85.90%, matching the weighted total column when every category has a grade.
How to use the blackboard grade calculator
List your weighted columns
Blackboard shows a Weighted Total column; its categories and weights are what you enter here.
Enter your scores
Points earned and possible per item. Mark future work “Not graded yet”.
Check running vs final
If your weighted total is set to “running”, empty categories are left out; turn work into zeros here to see the non-running figure.
Compare and plan
Differences usually trace back to the running setting or a category weight.
Weighted total vs total
Blackboard can show a raw Total and a Weighted Total. Only the weighted one reflects your syllabus percentages; make sure you’re reading the right column before you panic or celebrate. In Blackboard Ultra this appears as a single “Overall Grade” your instructor configures.
The “running total” setting
A running weighted total ignores categories with no grades, so your percentage early in the term can be higher than the final will be. Enter upcoming work as zeros here to see the floor.
When Blackboard and your math disagree
Check that each column’s points possible and category weight match the syllabus, and that nothing is set to be excluded from the total.
