Open the calculatorArizona State University uses a plus/minus scale where A+ is worth 4.33.
ASU is one of the few schools where an A+ is worth more than 4.0 — 4.33 — though your cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00. ASU also has no C−, D+ or D−. The calculator above uses A = 4.00, so if you earned A+ grades, use the table and formula below for an exact ASU figure.
ASU grade-point scale
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A+ | 4.33 |
| A | 4.00 |
| A− | 3.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 |
| B | 3.00 |
| B− | 2.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 |
| C | 2.00 |
| D | 1.00 |
| E (fail) | 0.00 |
Worked example
An A+ (4.33) and an A (4.00), 3 credits each: (4.33 + 4.00) × 3 ÷ 6 = 4.165 — but because ASU caps the cumulative GPA at 4.00, it is recorded as 4.00.
GPA at ASU: the formula
GPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours, where each course’s quality points = its grade points (from the table above) × its credit hours. Courses worth more credits move your GPA more.
Honors and recognition
ASU’s Dean’s List is set by each college and generally needs a 3.5+ GPA in a minimum number of graded hours that semester. Academic recognition at graduation (cum laude and above) uses cumulative-GPA thresholds — check your college.
