Rutgers does not use minus grades. Its only in-between grades are B+ = 3.5 and C+ = 2.5 — a half-step scale. The standard calculator above can’t represent B+ = 3.5 or C+ = 2.5, so for an exact Rutgers GPA use the table and formula below.
Rutgers grade-point scale
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A | 4.0 |
| B+ | 3.5 |
| B | 3.0 |
| C+ | 2.5 |
| C | 2.0 |
| D | 1.0 |
| F | 0.0 |
Worked example
An A (4.0, 3 cr), a B+ (3.5, 3 cr) and a B (3.0, 3 cr): (4.0 + 3.5 + 3.0) × 3 ÷ 9 = 3.50.
GPA at Rutgers: the formula
GPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours, where each course’s quality points = its grade points (from the table above) × its credit hours. Courses worth more credits move your GPA more.
Honors and recognition
Rutgers computes GPA to the third decimal and uses it for Dean’s List and academic standing; the exact Dean’s List cutoff is set by each school within Rutgers.
